A long overdue refresh for our primary bedroom...on a budget!

A long overdue refresh for our primary bedroom...on a budget!

There is nothing like crawling into clean sheets and fresh bedding, especially when the rest of the room feels nice and fresh, too! I'm embarrassed to admit that it's been years since we moved into our house and the primary bedroom took a backseat to all of the other projects that I wanted to do. Over the years, I've done little decor updates here and there, and the bedroom has looked nice for a time, but then it gets chaotic again and the styling disappears and what's left is a mess of a bedroom with no personality or style! So sad.

SO I decided that it was finally time to finish the bedroom once and for all! For me, that's way easier said than done because I love to start projects, but that last 5% is always tough for me to finish! I've really been working on "being a finisher" this year as one of my goals, so I'm pleased to be making progress. :)

It's been so long since I started this project that I don't even know what to use as a "before" photo (lol). We basically had furniture from our last house and a mix of things I had from my single life. Nothing really went together. Our bedroom is a decent size, but the layout is a little tricky and the only way to really fit a king sized bed is between two of the windows. The room is kind of wide but shallow, so for a long time we didn't have a dresser in our bedroom because we didn't think we had room! The biggest eye sore was probably our windows - we want to get new windows, but other projects keep taking priority. Since I know that we want new windows, I never bothered installing new curtains...so two of the windows had old curtains that were the wrong size and one window just had mini blinds. Ugh I know, so terrible.

As you can see, we were struggling. When I found out we had baby #2 on the way, I knew that I wanted to refresh our bedroom before working on the nursery or anything else. I'm losing my office to turn that bedroom into a nursery, so I wanted our bedroom to feel complete, peaceful, and vey functional for our small home. (aka we needed more storage!)

Part one of the makeover was to rip out our small reach in closets and custom build closets that worked for us and our space. I need to do a full post about that transformation because it was so huge!

I love a neutral space, but I also wanted something slightly warmer and more grounded for our bedroom. I started with a new area rug and WOW it completely transformed the space. I love the olive greens and moodier vibes, not to mention: it's so soft and was a steal on Amazon!

Up next, a new bed frame and headboard. We went with something a little more modern, another steal from Amazon! Can you tell I was on a budget for this makeover? ;) I finally decided that we would try a dresser because our nightstands weren't cutting it. I ordered this modern black one from Amazon and it was such a pain to assemble, but the price was right and I love how it turned out. It grounds the space and carries weight on the wall opposite our huge bed, and I think it looks like a great Anthropologie dupe dresser.

Probably the biggest transformation of all came from our window treatments! Goodbye, mini blinds!! My goodness, I was so happy to rip those things down and take them straight to the dumpster! I worked with TWOPAGES CURTAINS and I'm so happy with the results. I used Two Pages years ago when I purchased curtains for my office and I loved how they turned out, so I knew I wanted to work with them when the opportunity arose in the primary bedroom.

I cannot get over the transformation! We did the Liz Linen Romand Shade (cordless) in color "ivory white" and we did the Liz Linen Drape Pleated in color "sand beige." I l over how it turned out - it warms up the space so nicely! The roman shades are so smooth and very easy to operate. Here is a screenshot of the exact specifications I ordered.

I posted the reveal in this Instagram reels and the before/after is amazing!
