Fence drama update and my backyard makeover plan!

Fence drama update and my backyard makeover plan!

What if your neighbor ripped out your fence without telling you! Crazy, right?! Well, I guess not...that's exactly what happened to me and a ton of you said something similar (landscaping, fence, etc.) happened with your neighbors too!

I came home from yoga one morning and my fence was gone. Like, sitting in a pile on my lawn "gone!" Sure enough, they were replacing it. Hey, I'm all for a new fence at zero cost to me, but what about my gate? What about my trumpet vine growing up the trellis I built ON my fence?? What about the plant hooks that were attached to the fence?! ALL gone. (sad!) All in all, the new fence is nice, so I'm trying to deal, but I would have appreciated a simple "heads up!" Watch the story unfold in the Insta Highlight

Moving on, after the fence install, things were muddy and trampled, so it was time for a backyard makeover anyway. I decided to do something I've been wanting to do for YEARS. YEARS. I decided to do PEA GRAVEL! I've always had trouble getting grass to grow in certain parts of my yard, so this is my solution. I was gathering info and doing some math to figure out the makeover budget. There are bags of pea gravel available for purchase at home improvement stores, but I had seen other DIY posts showing a huge mound of gravel being delivered by a stone company, so I decided to look into it. I'M GLAD I DID! For the amount of gravel we needed (about 300 sq. ft) it was ONLY $58. $58?!!?!?? Are you serious?!?!?! Why didn't I do this years ago?!

Well, as exciting as that price is, there ARE a few reasons that held me back from doing this makeover sooner. A few logistical issues as well as a massive amount of prep work and manual labor kept me from tackling this project sooner, but I'm SO happy it's getting done now!

I'll go more into the process, prices, and exact products I used for the pea gravel project later, when it's a little more finished. For now, i want to share our yard inspo and what images I'm pulling from to achieve the overall look I'm going for.

There are three styles or elements that I'm combining and I love each of them so much! I'm excited to be able to combine them into one cohesive look (hopefully!)

  1. Cottage Garden
  1. Container Garden
  1. Pea Gravel Patio

I can't wait to reveal the full transformation!
